LED Walkway (LEDLaufsteg)

With the LED Walkway, which was opened in March 2015, the Chair now has a unique research and demonstration facility in the heart of Berlin. The Walkway is in the grounds of the Deutsches Technikmuseum and was constructed in cooperation with the Stiftung Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin (SDTB - Foundation of the German Museum of Technology) and Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM). Lighting and lighting control systems have been made available by various industrial partners.

With the aid of special masts an targeted control of over 50 LED lights, the importance of light quality, traffic safety and energy efficiency is demonstrated on various segments, as are the various dependencies that result from mast height, mast distance, density of development, light distribution and light color. Since the opening, regular guided tours have taken place in which, to date, over 1000 people from all over the world have taken part.

A special stretch of the Walkway for research purposes with six continuously variably extendable masts (1 - 9 m height) serves the development of new lighting concepts.

Anyone interested in these guided tours can apply on the website www.led-laufsteg.de. Here you will also find information on partners and sponsors of the Walkway, as well as further background information.

Detailed description of the research taking place in connection with the LED Walkway can be found here.
